This project was initiated to determine what potential exists in North Dakota to expand livestock production without seriously affecting crop production. Also, there was interest in determining if various types of governmental agricultural programs would be needed or even useful in encouraging livestock production. Funding for this project was provided jointly by the Economic Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. This report will hopefully be useful both to producers in the study area and to public policymakers concerned with the grain and livestock economy. |

In 1973 the commercial shrimp catches reached the very high level of 1615 tons. This represented the highest catch since 1956 and twice the landings of 1971 or 1972. The average engine-power of the vessels was 147.3 hp and the average catch per hour fishing was 23.6 kg. The catch curve shows the same pattern as the previous years, with a marked peak in October. This peak however was in 1973 (51 kg/ hour fishing) clearly much higher than in 1971 (33 kg/hour fishing) or in 1972 (30 kg/hour fishing). The experimental shrimp fishery was carried out by the RV Hinders. On the fishing ground of the Westdiep five stations were monthly sampled with an otter trawl. The shrimp catches were divided into two length classes (smaller or larger than 54... |

The Desmidflora of the Mosterdveen (a complex of small fen soaks in the Netherlands province of Gelderland) provides a good example of a microphyte cenose characteristic of an oligotrophic type of water (as described by BEIJERINCK, 1926), which has in the meantime become very rare. The most typical indicator species found in the Mosterdveen are Cosmarium ralfsii Bréb., Micrasterias jenneri Ralfs, Euastrum crassum (Bréb.) Kütz., and Xanthidium armatum (Bréb.) Rabenh. Some species whose occurrence and distribution in the Netherlands is not so well known, partly owing to their problematic taxonomy, are discussed separately. |

Subsequent to a previous publication (COESEL, 1974), an additional number of noteworthy records of desmids from the NW corner of the province of Overijssel is reported. The complex of Holocenic lakes and peatbogs of that area increasingly proves to be the richest site of desmids in the Netherlands at the present time. It is especially the very shallow, mesotrophic pools in quivering bogs which have repeatedly yielded records of species new for the Dutch desmid flora (such as Cosmarium hornavanense var. dubovianum, C. quasillus, and C. subbroomei). It is to be regretted, however, that there are clear indications of a depauperisation of the tychoplanktonic desmid flora owing to a deterioration of the waterquality. Some species in particular, such as... |

INTRODUCTION In 1940 Leene published Part I of the Snellius portunids, with the stated intention of using the remaining material to produce monographs of the genera Thalamita and Neptunus (now Portunus). These monographs did not eventuate and at the invitation of Dr. L. B. Holthuis the material was made available for study by the author at the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden. The original intention was to report upon the collections of the Snellius expedition and upon the accrued specimens from the Indo-West Pacific area in the Leiden Museum which belonged to described species. It was then intended to publish separately upon the undescribed species in these and other collections. Instead these undescribed species are included in the present... |

The study of the feeding behavior of D.cuneata (Moreau)(Soleidae, Pleuronectiformes), and the structure of the alimentary tract, show that this sp is a predator of benthic invertebrates or invertebrate fragments wrecked. According to the increasing depth and the progressive decrease of water movements, its food preference is fragments of adult Bivalvia, Polychaeta and Amphipoda. In this work, the feeding behavior is studied in relation to age, sex and state of sexual maturity. 3 patterns of seasonal bathymetric movements are proposed. (1) Anadromous trophic migration which takes place during sprig with movements towards the coast due to the warming of the waters. (2) Catadromous genetic migration, concerning in summer adults only. (3) In winter, the whole... |

The idea to establish a regional organization in order to improve the quality of education in South East Asia was conceived in a meeting of Ministers of Education and Culture in 1965. This idea took shape and was realized in an organization called the SEAMEO (South East Asian Ministers of Education Organization) which was officially inaugurated on February 7, 1968 by the signing of the SEAMEO Charter by seven Ministers of Education, representing the Governments of Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and South Vietnam. In 1971 the Republic of Khmer followed as the eighth member country, whereas in 1973 France became an associate member, followed by Australia and New Zealand in 1974. |

In a recent paper PIERROT (BIZOT, PIERROT & POCS 1974) described the new genus Bizotia based on Paraleucobryum densifolium Thér. (THÉRIOT 1939). However, ROBINSON (1967) already made the presumption that Paraleucobryum densifolium should belong to Campylopus, notably C. argyrocaulon (C.M.) Broth. His conception of C. argyrocaulon was apparently based on MUELLER’s original description (MUELLER 1874) only, which includes a detailed description of the cross section of the costa. We examined part of the type collection of C. argyrocaulon (Wallis s. n., Colombia, NY) but this material, although MUELLER’s description is correct, does not exactly match the type material of Paraleucobryum densifolium (Troll 2144-2145, Colombia, PC-TH). The type material of C.... |
